Hey everyone, if you don't know by now my name is Matt Vanderlist and I'm the host and creator of Matt's Basement Workshop. The first episode of MBW was posted on January 26th, 2006 from my basement on a toy microphone (explains a few things doesn't it??) and that's where I'm still recording from today.
Of course a few things have changed, but the show is still essentially me trying to share with you the listener my experiences so far as a woodworker. Really when it comes down to it, I'm just an amateur woodworker with a simple basement workshop filled with a mixture of both hand and power tools that I've either inherited or bought myself. Like many of you I was bitten by the woodworking bug very early. Watching my grandfather working in his basement workshop are among my earliest memories, and also like many of you, years later when I bought my first house that bug resurfaced and I was bitten even harder.
A big part of the reason for starting MBW was that while I'll never claim to know everything about woodworking, I know that through sharing my experiences with others this will help me to understand my limited knowledge of the subject and is a great way to open a dialogue with you the listeners so that I can learn more about woodworking too.
A few facts to share with you about myself: I'm a husband and a father of two great kids and while I would love to do MBW Podcast as my full-time job it's simply just another part of my woodworking experience. At my "day job" I'm a cytotechnologist for a small pathology laboratory (basically I sit at a desk all day and stare into a microscope). But during my freetime, I'm an avid woodworker trying to learn and do as much as I can.
If there's ever anything I talk about on the show that you'd like to learn more about or something you feel needs correcting...please don't ever hesitate to drop me a line at mattsbasementworkshop@gmail.com or call the show's voicemail at 231 345-2338 and leave me a message.
