Q & A with Mario Zamarron from The 210 Local Music Podcast

When did you start podcasting?

I started podcasting about 6 months ago.

Why did you start podcasting?

I bought an iPhone and found out about the podcasting app, having previously been unaware of what a podcast really was. I started listening to Star Talk Radio, The Nerdist Podcast, and Stuff You Should know, and figured out that I could do this too!

I’ve always been in love with music and a couple of years ago, got turned on to a local band, Girl in a Coma.

Because of them, I discovered local music. I found out that these bands were largely stuck in San Antonio and that a podcast could be a way to get them more notoriety.

What’s your show about?

My first podcast 210 Local Music, which is now on episode thirty, is dedicated to music, art, film, and entertainment in and around the greater San Antonio area. It’s been mostly interviews and has recently added event coverage.

My second podcast, 210 Local Music RADIO, plays songs uninterrupted in a mixed tape format and even full albums in their entirety and uninterrupted.

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

I currently use an iRigPre, an iRig MicCast, an xlr condenser mic, a Zoom H1, my iPhone, my iPad, and my MacBook Pro. I’ve been completely mobile and do my editing in Garageband and the iRig Recorder for iOS app.

How have you promoted your podcast?

We’ve got a Facebook Fan Page, a Twitter, Instagram, Vine, website, our guests help get the word out, we’ve given out bumper stickers, and I always carry tons of business cards around with me.

We’re also in iTunes, Libsyn, PodOmatic, Spreaker, TuneIn, Swell, YouTube, Stitcher, and soon, the Libsyn App!

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

I wish I knew that editing can take forever and that instead of looking for books, I could have been listening to Ray Ortega, Daniel J. Lewis, Dave Jackson, and Cliff Ravenscraft all along.

If you are in any way interested in the music scene in the greater San Antonio area than you really must check out 210 Local Music and 210 Local Music RADIO!

Have you been inspired by podcasting, and decided it’s time to start your own? Then let’s get to it! We’d love to be your hosting of choice.
