Q & A with Debt Free in 30

Debt Free in 30 Podcast & Radio Show

When did you start podcasting?

Hoyes, Michalos & Associates Inc. started our Debt Free in 30 podcast and radio show in the fall of 2014 and we’re currently in our second season.

Why did you start podcasting?

As one of Canada’s largest personal insolvency firms, we see the downside of using debt to manage finances.

Our purpose in creating Debt Free in 30 was to talk to a variety of industry experts about debt, money and personal finance with the intention of exposing people to many different points of view.

What’s your show about?

The focus of the show is to help listeners learn about how debt and money work, and to provide practical advice and tips that people can use to become debt free.

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

Doug Hoyes, show host & co-founder of Hoyes Michalos, interviews authors, newsmakers and financial advisors from Canada and the United States using a variety of methods including skype, phone and face to face recordings.

What’s great about podcasting is that interviews can be conducted any way that is convenient for our guest.

Some shows are recorded ahead where the material is less time sensitive, others are recorded and published within days.

Having a plan, including a list of possible future guests, is key to keeping a podcast going like we have for almost two years now.

How have you promoted your podcast?

Our show is 30 minutes long and is aired across several Ontario, Canada radio stations each week. We break up the show into three 10 minute segments which keeps the show fresh and fast paced, and often have a bonus segment just for our podcast listeners.

Our show airs on local radio stations weekly, the same weekend we publish our podcast on Libsyn and iTunes.

We promote our podcast on Twitter and Facebook. Since many of our episodes speak so closely to financial issues experienced by the average, hard-working consumer, our podcast has been instrumental in helping us engage with followers on our Hoyes Michalos Facebook page.

Interested in finding out how debt and money works? Then my goodness, go on now and subscribe to Debt Free in 30! Who doesn’t want that???
