Q & A with SCOTCH AND “good” CONVERSATION

When did you start podcasting?

October 2nd 2015

Why did you start podcasting?

Some of the best and most memorable conversations I’ve had were in a parking lot outside a bar at 2 am, talking about everything and nothing at all.

As I got a little older those conversations were happening less frequently. I missed talking with my friends.

I decided to take those late night parking lot talks into a spare bedroom of my house and record them.

Close to six years and 301 weekly episodes later, I’ve come to know my friends better and made a bunch of new ones along the way.

What’s the name of your show and what is it about?

My podcast is named SCOTCH AND “good” CONVERSATION. Truth be told, I didn’t put much thought into the name, I just thought it sounded cool.

I figured, best-case scenario, someone might bring a bottle of scotch.

The word “good” is in quotation marks because I thought the conversations might not always be “good”. Also, I just thought it looked eye-catching.

The show is about getting to know people through “real” conversation. We have a “not allowed to look stuff up rule”. If we’re trying to remember who produced an album or directed a film we just jump on google right away, we go old school and try to just figure it out.

I ask each of my guests seven questions. I also ask each guest to come up with an interesting question they wanna ask me. Sometimes it gets weird but it’s always fun.

What’s your podcasting set-up?

SCOTCH AND “good” CONVERSATION started pretty humbly. Two USB mics plugged into the beat up MacBook and recorded directly into GarageBand. As the podcast grew so did my set up.

Currently I use a Rode PodMic Cardioid Dynamic Microphone as my main mic. I have 3 Audio Technica AT2020 Condenser Microphones as my guests microphones. I record directly onto a Rode RODECaster Pro and I love it.

I still do all my editing using GarageBand. A buddy of mine suggested I throw some acoustic foam bass traps up in each corner of the room I record in and that’s made all the difference in the world.

I’m pretty happy with my in-studio sound.

How have you promoted your podcast?

Besides the standard social media stuff, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter , etc., I’m a big fan of a good old fashioned, well designed business card.

If I meet you for the first time there’s a better than average chance you’ll end up with my card in your hand. I’ve also co-sponsored several events in my community. They are a great way to get out and about and talk to people.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

I literally wish I knew what a podcast was. I was very late to the game.

I only discovered podcasts about three months before I started SCOTCH AND “good” CONVERSATION.

When Peter Von Taborsky started his podcast he thought it would just be a great way to get close to his friends and share those stories that life helps you collect. Want a fun and witty podcast that makes you want to reminisce with old friends? Listen on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.

Sometimes a podcast is just a way to share something you love.  Peter wanted to connect with old friends and share memories of great times.  He discovered podcasting and started sharing. Have you been thinking about starting a podcast, we can help!
