Q & A with Debra from The Debra Shepherd Podcast

When did you start podcasting?

I started podcasting in February 2020 and I haven’t looked back. It is such an honour to connect with listeners each week and to share these transformational conversations and stories.

Why did you start podcasting?

I started the podcast because I am on a mission to inspire, empower and support women to create more ease, joy, meaning, fulfilment, impact and success in their lives.

What’s the name of your show and what is it about?

The Debra Shepherd Podcast is about meaningful living.

It is a mix of solo episodes and in-depth interviews with female entrepreneurs, leaders, experts, thought leaders and change-makers from around the globe.

To uncover their extraordinary stories, practical tips, tools and strategies to inspire, empower and support listeners to create more ease, joy and meaning in their life and business.

We dive into self-improvement, lifestyle, wellbeing, mindset, business, spirituality and so much more. If you are a high achiever who is ready to step into being the joyful, fulfilled, purpose-driven, radiant leader you are here to be, this podcast is for you.

What’s your podcasting set-up?

I am all about simplicity and this is my podcast set-up.

  • Microphone: Blue Yeti USB Microphone. I’ve had this microphone for quite a few years. It’s brilliant, easy to use and provides good audio quality.
  • Recording Solo Episodes and Editing: GarageBand (Apple). Free software for Mac users which is easy to use.
  • Recording Guest Interviews: Zoom. I generally record without video and save the conversations locally.
  • Hosting: Libsyn was recommended to me by a fellow podcaster. I have used it since I started podcasting. It is intuitive and easy to use.

How have you promoted your podcast?

I promote the weekly episodes on various social media platforms in different ways because each platform is different.

I share the episodes on Instagram, on my Facebook page and in my Facebook group. Pinterest is a great platform to promote your podcast particularly if you share quotes from your episodes.

I also share episode content on LinkedIn and Twitter along with short audio clips on SoundCloud and YouTube.

I review what’s working well and how I can improve because I want to give as many women as possible the opportunity to connect and listen to these life-changing conversations.

My promotional strategy changes according to the statistics.

Things change, you can’t have a set plan and forget promotional strategy.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

I had a calling to produce this show for women and I knew from the outset it would be powerful and now I see just how much. It is part of my purpose to bring these conversations, teachings and stories to listeners each week. It brings me so much joy and it is an honour to have the opportunity to contribute this way and to spend this time with listeners each week.
