Q & A with Pete from the Break It Down Show<\/span><\/h2>\n

When did you<\/b> start podcasting<\/b>?<\/b><\/p>\n

I started in 2012. My Buddy Jon and I had a little <\/span>community<\/span> radio show<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The folks at the station recognized our talent before we did and said, “get out of here and do something bigger!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

So we started the Break It Down Show<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why did you start podcasting?<\/b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

After leaving <\/span>Afghanistan<\/span> in 2012, I wanted to do something different.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I wanted to tell stories and relate what I’d seen in my day-to-day work as a spy in <\/span>combat zones<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

That work allowed me to develop a unique set of<\/span> skills and knowledge<\/span> to do what others can’t in terms of finding, getting and telling a story.<\/span><\/p>\n

What’s the name of your show and what is it abou<\/b>t?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Break It Down Show.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I illustrate life through a wide array of topics.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Whether I’m talking to a world <\/span>famous musician<\/span> or someone who’s visited every country \u2026 life is <\/span>full of wonder<\/span> if you bother to look for it.<\/span><\/p>\n

What’s your <\/b>podcast set up<\/b>?\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

My setup is designed to be mobile, portable, professional and I carry everything in a backpack. <\/span><\/p>\n

I always want to reduce variables.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I’ve recorded on location in over a dozen states. When I record remotely, it\u2019s via Streamyard.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I have a Roland V1HD switcher, which is currently connected to a Zoom H6 and basically acts as an audio board.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Usually I use Shure wired SM-35’s for mics into the Zoomheadsets. To me, they are the key to sounding great no matter the setting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I’ve even recorded shows while on a walk with a guest \u2014 though that was audio only.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

My cameras are Sony A6000’s and I edit in Audacity.<\/span><\/p>\n

How have you promoted your podcast?\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

I’ve done it all.\u00a0 I’ve bought ads, I’ve appeared on other shows, I’ve written articles about it \u2026 I continue to work on discovery.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

From my point of view, and experience…nothing is more valuable than discovery.\u00a0 It drives the rest of the show’s performance.<\/span><\/p>\n

I post on all my social media, Twitter<\/a>, Instagram<\/a>, LinkedIn and YouTube to get as much visibility as possible. And actually one of our biggest audiences come from YouTube<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Your family and friends will NEVER support you like a fan does. Love the family, find the fans.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
