Q & A with Marian from Plant Based Briefing<\/span><\/h2>\n

When did you <\/b>start podcasting<\/b>?<\/b><\/h3>\n

I launched Plant Based Briefing on April 26, 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n

What made you think about <\/b>starting a podcast<\/b>?<\/b><\/h3>\n

Primarily, I wanted to increase awareness and share information about plant based, vegan and eco-friendly living.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There’s so much great content online about it. <\/span><\/p>\n

As a voiceover artist with a home recording studio, it was a natural fit to curate, record, and share this information (with permission) in a podcast format.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s modeled after Justin Malik’s Optimal Living podcasts \u2014 I\u2019ve always loved them. <\/span><\/p>\n

Mostly, I appreciate the variety of topics, the short episodes, that he does the research for me and I can listen while doing other things.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Eventually, I reached out to Justin before launching Plant Based Briefing and he gave me some great advice. <\/span>He helped me get started and begin reaching out to bloggers\/organizations for permission to narrate their content.<\/span><\/p>\n

Secondarily, I use the podcast to grow my VoiceOver business, <\/span>PlantPoweredVO.com.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

What\u2019s the name of your show and what is it about?<\/b><\/h3>\n

Plant Based Briefing is a 10-minute-daily curated content podcast for people short on time, but curious about plant based, vegan, and eco-friendly topics.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To prepare, I research and curate the best content from experts I can find. Then, I get author permission, and narrate it in short daily episodes. <\/span><\/p>\n

In the end, Mmost people go plant based or vegan for one of 3 reasons:\u00a0<\/span>health, animals,<\/span> or the <\/span>environment<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Yet, there are many more reasons people move away from <\/span>animal agriculture. These<\/span>\u00a0include\u00a0<\/span>infectious diseases<\/span> & pandemics, <\/span>antibiotic resistance<\/span>, <\/span>workers rights, dietary racism, world hunger, wildlife extinction, biodiversity loss, <\/span>etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Plant Based Briefing allows listeners to keep up to speed on all of these topics without a huge time commitment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What\u2019s your podcast set-up?\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n

My microphone is a VO 1-A Harlan Hogan Signature Series Microphone<\/span><\/p>\n

For headphones, I use Harlan Hogan Voiceover Headphones<\/span><\/p>\n

My interface is the Focusrite Scarlett Solo (2nd Gen) USB Audio Interface<\/span><\/p>\n

And finally my computer & software are the Macbook Pro, TwistedWave, Izotope RX6, Audacity, Canva, Wix, Printify.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I record and edit in Twisted Wave utilizing Izotope RX6, then load the file into Audacity and add music. I use Canva for my podcast art and social media graphics.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For my website, I use Wix, and Printify for my \u2018print on demand\u2019 merchandise.<\/span><\/p>\n

Because I do VoiceOver work, I have a double-walled vocal isolation booth for a recording studio.\u00a0<\/span>The walls & ceiling are acoustically treated with Roxul Safe-n-Sound bass traps, Roxul Rockboard & Safe-n-Sound acoustic panels, and acoustic foam.\u00a0<\/span>If you’d like to see \u00a0a virtual tour of my studio, I have it\u00a0here.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

How have you promoted your podcast?<\/b><\/h3>\n

I regularly ask my listeners to share the podcast, and to rate\/review it. And then\u00a0<\/span>I give shoutouts to listeners who review and post the reviews on the podcast website.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Every episode I thank listeners for telling their friends about it, and say \u201chey\u201d to listeners in other countries (love those stats!).<\/span><\/p>\n

I have social media pages for the podcast (<\/span>Facebook<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Twitter<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>LinkedIn<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Instagram<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>YouTube<\/span><\/a>), and share episodes on my personal social accounts as well.\u00a0<\/span>Now I\u2019m about to venture into <\/span>TikTok<\/span><\/a> for additional promotion, after watching your awesome webinar about it!<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve also been a guest on other podcasts where I talk about my show.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then I do some cross-promotion with other vegan podcasters.\u00a0<\/span>My website even carries plant-based and vegan\u00a0merchandise<\/a>\u00a0, so shoppers can then check out the podcast as well.<\/p>\n

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?<\/b><\/h3>\n

1. I don\u2019t need to obsess about download numbers. <\/span><\/p>\n

Essentially, I\u2019m doing this as a service project to educate people in order to save animals, the planet and human health.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Yes, of course I want my listenership to grow. But, now that I\u2019m more focused on living my mission and simply being authentic, rather than obsessively looking at downloads, it\u2019s much more enjoyable!<\/span><\/p>\n

2. I wish I knew about all the amazing resources Libsyn offers \u2026 podcast, blog, webinars, etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the beginning, I used with another provider, and quickly realized they didn\u2019t offer some basic things I needed relating to social posts.<\/span><\/p>\n

So, I switched to Libsyn before the launch.\u00a0<\/span>Really glad I switched! I\u2019m still learning and loving all the resources offered by Libsyn.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. I also wish I\u2019d realized that I should schedule my Libsyn-generated social posts for later in the day.<\/p>\n

It hadn\u2019t occurred to me for the first 6 months. I was having my social posts go out at 3:30 am when my episode dropped.\u00a0<\/span>A lightbulb went on when Rob and Elsie mentioned it on The Feed<\/a>!<\/span><\/p>\n

Marian Erikson<\/span><\/a> knew there was a TON of info out there about plant based living. As a freelance voiceover, she saw\u00a0 an opportunity to curate, record and share bites of this info to <\/span>grow awareness about plant based, vegan & eco-friendly living. Short, informative and interesting, she applied her passion for saving animals, the planet and human health and made it into a 10-minute-daily podcast, <\/span>Plant Based Briefing<\/span><\/a>.
