Q & A with Mayra from Debt-Free Latina<\/span><\/h2>\n

When did you start podcasting?<\/b><\/h3>\n

I started podcasting during the pandemic in September 2020<\/span><\/p>\n

What made you think about starting a podcast?<\/b><\/h3>\n

I first thought about it a whole year before in early 2019, but didn’t know where to start.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I enjoy listening to podcasts and didn’t see many podcasts about money from Latinas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What’s the name of your show and what is it about?<\/b><\/h3>\n

My podcast is Debt Free Latina.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I focus on budgeting strategies, ideas to increase earnings, and how to build financial independence.<\/span><\/p>\n

What’s your podcasting setup?<\/b><\/h3>\n

My Podcasting setup has evolved.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I started with a mic and my computer, but currently have a RodeCaster Pro.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For editing, I use Descript, Audacity, and run the files thru Auphonic to ensure my audio levels are great.<\/span><\/p>\n

How have you promoted your podcast?<\/b><\/h3>\n

I promote my podcast by emailing my list.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, I post on Instagram<\/a>, Facebook<\/a>, and Tiktok<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

While recording my podcast, I use a tripod to record a vertical visual on my phone and use the video to make IG Reels and TikToks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?<\/b><\/h3>\n

1. Keep learning about the industry.<\/p>\n

Technology evolves, and implementing new strategies helps improve processes; however, we have to commit to being lifetime learners.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first few episodes of my podcast sound horrible!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I left them up because the content is great and it’s who I was in the early stages.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We all start somewhere.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I learned from that and moved on.<\/span><\/p>\n

Commit to learning, improving, and taking action! <\/span><\/p>\n

2. You don’t need the latest and greatest equipment.<\/p>\n

We all want the coolest gadgets, but the truth is you don’t need them all.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I set milestones.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When I hit a personal milestone I bought a piece of equipment or software that I wanted.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. It’s ok to change the name of your podcast.<\/span><\/p>\n

The name of the podcast is a huge commitment, but the truth is, it’s more important to start podcasting!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You can change the name later. I did and it worked out!<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Find community!<\/p>\n

I attend 1-2 events a year.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There’s nothing like meeting people in person!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There are tons of online platforms and memberships to build community in as well. They are also a great option to learn from each other. But there’s no comparison to a face-to-face conversation with someone that understands the podcaster’s struggle.<\/span><\/p>\n

Get plugged in and find your people!<\/span><\/p>\n
