Q & A with Mark Mason from The Late Night Internet Marketing Podcast<\/h2>\n

When did you start podcasting?<\/h3>\n

I\u2019ve been podcasting on and off again since July 14th, 2009. \u00a0I got off to a great start, but like a lot of podcasters, I fought Pod-Fade as I struggled to find my voice and figure out just what my show was actually about.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve come a long way since that first episode. \u00a0I\u2019ve re-branded (I used to be the MasonWorld Internet Marketing Podcast), improved the quality of the show, and changed the format.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m in a great place right now and I look forward to the show each and every\u00a0week.<\/p>\n

Why did you start podcasting?<\/h3>\n

When I first started trying to learn about building an online business, I was heavily influenced by Jeremy and Jason over at Internet Business Mastery (also Libsyn customers).<\/p>\n

They were my first podcast, and I can still remember the personal connection and impact of having them \u201cin my head\u201d every episode. It was like they were actually talking directly to me.<\/p>\n

One time, I actually listened to back episodes of their podcast for 24 hours straight (during a multi-leg flight to Asia). \u00a0I knew that if they could connect to me through podcasting like that, then I could use that same medium in my business.<\/p>\n

I simply followed their example. \u00a0Plus, I like technology and talking to people \u2013 so it was a natural fit for me.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your show about?<\/h3>\n

My show is called the \u201cLate Night Internet Marketing Podcast<\/a><\/em>\u201d and the tag-line is \u201cBuilding Internet Businesses One Night At A Time<\/em>.\u201d \u00a0So, the show is about helping people work through and overcome all of the complicated technical, business and mindset\u00a0obstacles that come with starting an online business.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0focus of the show is affiliate marketing business, but I touch a lot of broader internet marketing topics as well. \u00a0 The bottom line for me is that the show is about helping people. \u00a0That\u2019s why I do it.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.<\/h3>\n

I am an electrical engineer, so I have lots of gear (which I consider fun toys with a purpose). \u00a0I use a Heil PR40 dynamic mic and a Mackie mixer.<\/p>\n

For sound effects, I use an iPad running the very cool SoundBox audio cart software. \u00a0I use an iMac for Skype piped into the mixer, and I record everything on both an Edirol R\u201309 audio recorder and in Adobe Audition on my iMac.<\/p>\n

My blog runs on a dedicated host at ServInt, and I use WordPress as my CMS.<\/p>\n

I absolutely love my Heil PR40 dynamic mic, and I think having an \u201canalog\u201d setup with a mixer is a fantastic way to podcast.<\/p>\n

One of the most valuable tools I have of course is Libsyn hosting for my media files. \u00a0I just simply works all the time, and I never even think about it.<\/p>\n

How have you promoted your podcast?<\/h3>\n

The most effective way to promote a podcast is to get interviewed by other podcasts in your niche. \u00a0The reason is that you are putting yourself in front of someone that already knows what a podcast is, and has their media player in their hand.<\/p>\n

All they have to do is search for you and hit subscribe right there while they are listening. \u00a0I love doing interviews, but I have also used other great techniques like guest posting, SEO, of course Facebook and twitter.<\/p>\n

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?<\/h3>\n

This is a hard question for me. \u00a0When I started podcasting, I immediately learned everything I could from Cliff Ravenscraft (the Podcast Answerman). \u00a0So, you could say that because of Cliff, I knew everything I needed to know right out of the gate.<\/p>\n

If I had to pick something though \u2013 I would say that I wish I had known how much I would love Podcasting. \u00a0Had I known that, I would have started much much sooner.j<\/p>\n
