Q & A with Joel from Pod on Pod<\/h2>\n

When did you start podcasting?<\/h3>\n

In May of 2012, I convinced my partner to start podcasting when he barely knew what a podcast was. We\u2019ve maintained that show since, but just launched \u201cPod on Pod\u201d on May 4th.<\/p>\n

Why did you start podcasting?<\/h3>\n

We LOVE podcasts, and since we started our first show, we love podcasting.<\/p>\n

But anyone that is in this world knows that discovery is an issue. There\u2019s so much great content and it too often gets overlooked.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve seen blogs that review podcasts (and a few that do it \u201cprofessionally\u201d for hire) but no one that had a good consistent show exposing their audience to a different podcast every week.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s what we wanted to do.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your show about?<\/h3>\n

Every week on Pod on Pod<\/a> we review a different podcast, each listening to at least 3 different episodes to make sure we have a good sample size.<\/p>\n

Then we discuss the show based on the following criteria, Audio Quality, Host Likability, Production Values and the Content itself.<\/p>\n

We also playfully give the show alternate names that are perhaps more descriptive than the actual title, and finally rate the show on a 0\u20132 Earbud scale each.<\/p>\n

The rating is more about whether or not we\u2019ll actually subscribe and suggest the show to others. Any show we review is likely to be one that we generally like, and most importantly we don\u2019t punch down.<\/p>\n

My mom taught me that if you don\u2019t have something nice to say, you shouldn\u2019t say anything at all. But mostly, there are too many good shows to discuss to waste time talking about bad ones.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.<\/h3>\n

I\u2019m a DJ in my dayjob, and we use our professional studio to record both our shows.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s a Windows 7 PC running Adobe Audition CS6, with two Heil PR40\u2019s run into a 10 channel Mackie Mixer.<\/p>\n

I edit in Audition as well, but generally back at home on my iMac. I LOVE the new Dropbox upload for Libsyn, as I\u2019m a big Dropbox user. It saves me a ton of time and I\u2019ve been using it ever since it was added in Libsyn 4.<\/p>\n

How have you promoted your podcast?<\/h3>\n

We\u2019ve got a Facebook page<\/a> and Twitter<\/a> account and have spent a little ad money on both. We\u2019re also a member of the new Procast Network from TeamProcreate.com<\/a> and they\u2019re helping promote us through their social media outlets and our sister podcasts. (Is that the right phrase? Ha)<\/p>\n

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?<\/h3>\n

Audiences take time to build, and the most important thing you can do to build one is produce consistent, quality content.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re happy producing your show and proud of the show you\u2019re producing, then the audience will come, or not, but that\u2019s not really what podcasting is about anyway.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve never been more creatively fulfilled than I have been the past two years podcasting, if anything, I wish I knew that feeling a few years before I started, so I could be 4 or 5 years in already instead of just two.<\/p>\n
