Q&A with Amanda from The Wellpreneur Podcast<\/h2>\n

When did you start podcasting?<\/h3>\n

In 2006.<\/p>\n

I co-hosted a podcast back in 2006 when podcasting felt really new and unknown. \u00a0Back then I did everything myself – all of the editing, the artwork, the show notes – everything.<\/p>\n

When I launched the WellpreneurOnline podcast<\/a> in January 2014, I knew I wanted to do it differently, because now I have a business and the podcast is just one element of it!<\/p>\n

Why did you start podcasting?<\/h3>\n

For a deeper connection with my audience than blogging alone. \u00a0Plus, it\u2019s fun!<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your show about?<\/h3>\n

The WellpreneurOnline Podcast teaches wellness entrepreneurs how to grow a healthy business – online.<\/p>\n

Every week I interview successful wellness entrepreneurs (like yoga teachers, health coaches, personal trainers etc.) about how they\u2019ve grown their business online.<\/p>\n

When I was training as a health coach I was constantly searching for examples of successful coaches, and couldn\u2019t find what I was looking for – so I created it!<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.<\/h3>\n

I keep it super simple. \u00a0I record Skype interviews using my laptop and a blue snowball mic. \u00a0Then I record an intro and outro either in audacity, or on an external voice recorder.<\/p>\n

I had a professional intro created on fiverr and bought some music to use as the theme song.<\/p>\n

I outsource all the audio editing to a professional (who I found on oDesk) and then have a virtual assistant put together my show notes (also found via oDesk).<\/p>\n

When your podcast is for a business, you need to balance what you enjoy doing with what is the most effective use of your time and skills. \u00a0Don\u2019t try to do it all – you need to have a life too!<\/p>\n

How have you promoted your podcast?<\/h3>\n

I have an email list from my existing blog, so I promoted there, as well as on Facebook and Twitter, and on any Facebook\/Google+ groups where wellness entrepreneurs hang out.<\/p>\n

I really encouraged people to leave a rating and review in the first few months which seemed to help boost visibility too.<\/p>\n

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?<\/h3>\n

I wish I\u2019d created a sellable product around our podcast in 2006 because the market was so much less crowded and we got a lot of media attention about our show!<\/p>\n

So now I would tell new podcasters – have a reason for people to come back to your website – and encourage them to go sign up for that thing on every episode.<\/p>\n

You need to have the ability to contact your audience, which you can do with your podcast, of course – but email is even better!<\/p>\n

Also don\u2019t be afraid to promote your own business on your show – it\u2019s YOUR show, after all!<\/p>\n

And finally – just get started. \u00a0Don\u2019t wait until it\u2019s perfect. \u00a0Your first episode will probably be your worst and you\u2019ll only improve with time, so just get it out there!<\/p>\n
