When did you start podcasting?<\/h3>\n

November 21, 2014<\/p>\n

Why did you start podcasting?<\/h3>\n

I have been running an online radio station playing female artists for 7 years.<\/p>\n

It seemed like a great new platform to promote our Indie artists and help new listeners discover their amazing music.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your show about?<\/h3>\n

Women of Substance<\/a> is a music podcast featuring Indie Female Artists in all genres.<\/p>\n

I do my best to give some musical or personal background on the artists before each song. I do a 30 minute weekday show (5 days per week).<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.<\/h3>\n

I have a home studio because I am also a recording artist so I use more high end equipment than is necessary for Podcasting.<\/p>\n

I use a PC with an Event Rhode condenser Mic and an AudioFire Mixer.<\/p>\n

I host with Libsyn.<\/p>\n

How have you promoted your podcast?<\/h3>\n

I promote to my listeners and artists through our newsletter, on our Facebook page and tweet specific tweets about the songs and artists featured on each show.<\/p>\n

This way I can inform the fans of these artists so they can hear their favorites artists and leverage their fanbase.<\/p>\n

They retweet my tweets so I\u2019m getting it out to a lot of people with approximately 7 artists on each show and 5 shows per week.<\/p>\n

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?<\/h3>\n

I wish I had realized that iTunes needs a statement that assures them that I have secured a written right to broadcast this music. I did not realize that iTunes would be so strict on this.<\/p>\n

I knew I was being legal so I figured I was fine.<\/p>\n

Not knowing this caused me a 2 week delay in my launch.<\/p>\n

iTunes does not tell you why they reject your show so I was left clueless and frustrated until Libsyn support sent me down the right path (even they didn\u2019t know that was the problem for sure but just their suggestion clued me into the possibility and helped me finally solve the problem after being rejected twice by iTunes).<\/p>\n

All you female indie artist lovers this is your podcast! Five days a week even, can\u2019t get better than that! Hope you don\u2019t think about it too much and just subscribe<\/a>. One can\u2019t have enough music in their lives.<\/em><\/p>\n
