Q & A with Laura from the Productive Woman Podcast<\/h2>\n

When did you start podcasting?<\/h3>\n

I launched The Productive Woman<\/a> on July 1, 2014.<\/p>\n

Why did you start podcasting?<\/h3>\n

I enjoyed listening to podcasts and had experienced how the podcasts I listen to affect my life for the better. I wanted the opportunity to do the same for others.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your show about?<\/h3>\n

The Productive Woman is a podcast about productivity for busy women. It\u2019s mostly a solo show, in which I talk about various aspects of what it takes to accomplish the things we care about and make a life that matters.<\/p>\n

I have a guest on the show about once a month.<\/p>\n

My guests are women from various stages and walks of life, who talk about how they manage their own busy lives and share some of the tips and tools that work for them.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.<\/h3>\n

I record using a Shure SM7B microphone in a Heil PL2T boom stand, run through a Mackie 1402 VLZ Pro mixer and a Voice Channel mic pre-amp channel strip into a Roland R05 digital recorder.<\/p>\n

When I have guests (about once a month), we connect via Skype on my 27″ iMac retina, and I run their audio through a Soundblaster audio card into the mixer (set up for mix minus).<\/p>\n

For my solo episodes, I do minor editing (and add the intro\/outro music, provided by my musician husband) in Garage Band, then use Garage Band to convert it to mp3.<\/p>\n

I tag it using ID3 Editor, then upload the final tagged mp3 to LibSyn.<\/p>\n

My episodes with guests are sent to John Bukenas for editing and tagging.<\/p>\n

My website is a customized self-hosted WordPress site created by Daniel J. Lewis, the director of Noodle.mx, the network The Productive Woman is part of.<\/p>\n

I create my show notes in the site\u2019s dashboard, pull the direct download link from Libsyn, and hit publish. I get a photo for each episode from Dollar Photo Club.<\/p>\n

How have you promoted your podcast?<\/h3>\n

I post each episode to Twitter, the show\u2019s Facebook page, my personal Facebook profile, Pinterest, Google+, and LinkedIn.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s about it.<\/p>\n

I have a busy day job\u2013I\u2019m a lawyer at a large Dallas law firm\u2013so I don\u2019t have as much time as I might like to spend on social media and other promotional-type activities.<\/p>\n

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?<\/h3>\n

I wish I\u2019d known how much richness hosting this show would bring to my life.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t mean money, but the relationships. The people I\u2019ve had the chance to get to know have just made my life so much better.<\/p>\n

The podcasting community is unlike any I\u2019ve been a part of before\u2013so supportive and generous and welcoming. And to have the privilege of being a small part of the listeners\u2019 lives \u2026 wow.<\/p>\n

The whole thing has just been an amazing journey, far more than I could\u2019ve imagined.<\/p>\n
