When did you start podcasting?<\/h3>\n

I started podcasting in February, 2014.<\/p>\n

Why did you start podcasting?<\/h3>\n

I started podcasting because I was doing a lot of press for my band Tanlines\u00a0at the time and listening to lots of long form podcasts.<\/p>\n

I grew tired of the repetitive, cut-and-paste, style interviews I was doing and wished that there was a podcast that would let artists talk, in their own words, about what they do, so I created that space.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your show about?<\/h3>\n

Each episode of No Effects<\/a> features a different musician talking, in their own words, about their lives and careers.<\/p>\n

We usually talk about starting out in music and what it\u2019s like doing music in 2017, with the business changing so quickly.<\/p>\n

Over 84 episodes, I\u2019ve featured members of Vampire Weekend, The Strokes, Tegan and Sara, A Tribe Called Quest, Fleet Foxes, Sylvan Esso, Empress Of, and many many more.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.<\/h3>\n

My setup is mobile, so I can record wherever is convenient to the guest. This is really necessary to make it convenient for busy people to find the time to do the show.<\/p>\n

I have a small Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 interface, a couple of Shure 58s, and I record in Ableton and edit in Hindenburg.<\/p>\n

How have you promoted your podcast?<\/h3>\n

I\u2019ve promoted the show on Twitter<\/a>, Facebook<\/a>, and Reddit, appeared on other podcasts, and solicited press.<\/p>\n

I encourage guests to promote their episodes on their social media, and they usually oblige.<\/p>\n

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?<\/h3>\n

When I started, I thought my role as a host was to be a big part of the conversation. I\u2019ve worked on becoming a better listener.<\/p>\n
