Q & A with DJ Klyph of Klyph Notes<\/h2>\n

When did you start podcasting?<\/h3>\n

In August of 2014 I recorded the first episode of what was initially called DJ Klyph presents\u2026<\/p>\n

Why did you start podcasting?<\/h3>\n

I\u2019ve been hosting a local Portland Or. based radio show Welcome to the Neighborhood<\/em> since 2009 and occasionally after the broadcast, I\u2019d spend up to an hour in conversation with the guests.<\/p>\n

I felt a portion of my audience would dig hearing these behind the scenes stories and get to know more about the artists. Podcasting seemed like a good way to capture those conversations and share them with an even larger audience.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s the name of your show and what is it about?<\/h3>\n

The name of my show is \u201cKlyph Notes\u201d<\/a>. It\u2019s an extension of the WTTN radio show, minus the music.<\/p>\n

I get to use this platform to allow artists to tell stories like the history of the Portland Hip-Hop scene, the concepts behind their projects, promote themselves and events. I\u2019ve had record label owners, writers, activists\u2026It\u2019s been a great way to build and serve the community.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s you podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.<\/h3>\n

I have a couple of options based on artist availability. The primary set up I use is a couple of Sure SMB7 microphones with wind screens into a MOTU ULTRAlite Mk3.<\/p>\n

I record directly into Logic Pro X on a Mid 2015 MacBook Pro.<\/p>\n

On the road for quick & easy capture I use a Zoom H5 with on-board mic with the occasional addition of classic AKG D320 B hand held microphones or I swap out to the onboard SSH\u20136 shotgun mic.<\/p>\n

I take that audio and upload into Logic to edit and bounce to MP3. At home, I use a Rode NT1000 with a pop filter into the ULTRAlite Mk3<\/p>\n

How have you promoted your podcast?<\/h3>\n

I use social media quite a bit. Primarily Instagram<\/a> which I link to my twitter<\/a> and Facebook<\/a>. I use my website<\/a> as well. I also have an ad in a local music magazine in Portland that serves the dual purpose of podcast promotion and support of the scene.<\/p>\n

What do you know now that you wish you new when you started?<\/h3>\n

With the growing interest in a number of podcasts starting every day, I am constantly learning new concepts and ways to connect with and build listenership.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know if there is any one thing I wish I knew, but I\u2019m grateful for the Libsyn community and glad to be a part of it.<\/p>\n
