Q & A with Rachel and Kaila from The Good Luck Sleeping Podcast<\/h2>\n

When did you start podcasting?<\/h3>\n

Our first episode went up on March 24th of this year and it took off way faster than we were anticipating. I don\u2019t think we expected the spooky\/scary niche to be so popular, so we were surprised to find so many people invested from the beginning.<\/p>\n

Why did you start podcasting?\"\"<\/h3>\n

We are interested in a specific niche and were excited to share our interests with like-minded people!<\/p>\n

We call our listeners \u201cSpooky Soulmates\u201d because we enjoy interacting with them and have a constant stream of communication through our social media platforms which has led to some really great friendships.<\/p>\n

The two of us bonded over our interest in the paranormal and strange things in life, and we decided to start a podcast just to talk about them in detail, and now our \u201cSpooky Fam\u201d has bonded with us as well.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s the name of your show and what is it about?<\/h3>\n

We are The Good Luck Sleeping Podcast<\/a>) and we cover anything and everything creepy and mysterious.<\/p>\n

We love to share our research on the paranormal, as well as tiptoe into the waters of Conspiracy Theories and occasionally True Crime! Some of our most popular episodes are the ones on conspiracies because we spend a ton of time digging deep for secrets.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve definitely put a bit of a target on our backs with the crazy things we have uncovered in those episodes. We usually try to find the science behind things and present both science and supernatural outlooks, and I think that sets us apart too.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.<\/h3>\n

For editing, we use Audacity. As far as technology, we use two Audio-Technica ATR2100-USB USB\/XLR microphones with the Knox Gear Boom Arm, Shock Mount, and Pop Filter setups.<\/p>\n

Those feed into a hand-me-down mixer box and that hooks into a laptop. We tried to find decent quality equipment from the get go as opposed to recording through our phones and what-not mostly because we are perfectionists and want our sound quality to be good!<\/p>\n

How have you promoted your podcast?<\/h3>\n

We definitely take advantage of social media, and Kaila is a superstar when it comes to marketing our show. We have built different communities on Facebook, Instagram<\/a>, and Twitter<\/a> and we use those to interact with people and not just \u201cpush\u201d our show.<\/p>\n

I think it is important to put more out there than just show plugs, so to speak. We try to build relationships with people too. We also work with other similar podcasts to network, promote, and share each others content.<\/p>\n

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?<\/h3>\n

Podcasting takes a lot of time and energy if you want it to be successful. It\u2019s almost a second job at times if you want it to actually grow.<\/p>\n

Keep in mind that you are in charge of your growth. Put out content that people want to hear within your genre, but also make sure you\u2019re passionate about your research.<\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t feel a passion for the content you put out, the audience will pick up on that and those episodes will fall flat. Although it can take a lot of work, it\u2019s worth it in the end to put something out into the world that you\u2019re proud of, even if that means re-recording or scrapping an idea altogether. We\u2019ve definitely done that a time or two and haven\u2019t regretted it at all.<\/p>\n
