Q & A with Lara from The Atomic Library<\/h2>\n

When did you start podcasting?<\/h3>\n

We started podcasting just over a year ago. The idea came to us in mid summer 2018 and by that October we were deep into script-writing. Our show debuted in April 2019.<\/p>\n

Why did you start podcasting?<\/h3>\n

We initially bonded over our love of podcasts in general and started exploring how we could help bring awareness to Public Libraries and all the services they offer through the medium.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s the name of your show and what is it about?\"\"<\/h3>\n

Our show is The Atomic Library<\/a>. It is a full-cast comedy audio-fiction with immersive sound design.<\/p>\n

The Atomic Library\u00a0follows the dedicated staff and quirky patrons of the fictional Orson Welles Community Library of Haven Hollow, TX, just a short time after the ALLPOCALYPSE (meaning everything that could go wrong did go wrong.)<\/p>\n

Our show gently skewers Library life, small-city politics, and the day-to-day unpredictability of serving the public, while highlighting our belief that when things go wrong, your Library just might have the resources to help make it right.<\/p>\n

We (the creators) and much of the cast work or have worked in Public Libraries and the public sector.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.<\/h3>\n

We use a local makerspace that includes a sound studio. They provide the equipment, and the software (Adobe Audition). They also offer classes and tutorials for how to put together a podcast, but mostly we are self-taught (through a lot of trial and error.)<\/p>\n

How have you promoted your podcast?<\/h3>\n

We have promoted our podcast so far through social media and by fostering relationships within the audiofiction community.<\/p>\n

We are fairly active on Twitter<\/a> and are working diligently to become more active on other platforms (Instagram<\/a>, Discord, etc.)<\/p>\n

We plan to do more traditional promotion as we gain more experience – for example press kits and releases, conventions and advertising.<\/p>\n

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?<\/h3>\n

So much! We wish we had reached out and made more connections with other podcasters sooner.\u00a0We probably could have benefited from a bit of \u201cmentoring.\u201d<\/p>\n
