Q & A with Kamuela from Legends From The Pacific<\/h2>\n

When did you start podcasting?<\/h3>\n

In 2004 with a weekly three-hour show, \u201cOff the Air\u2019s: Geek Nation\u201d.<\/p>\n

About a year later we started doing an hour of the show live on Hawaii\u2019s KUMU-AM, that was edited into the two-hours we did outside the radio station.<\/p>\n

We made a television pilot but it wasn\u2019t picked up. The podcast lasted a few years.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a fun fact. I talked to Apple about distributing our show, and wanted them to alert fans when episodes were available. They had no idea what I was talking about, and treated us like we were submitting an album. Which meant we had to pay licencing fees for each hour we wanted them to distribute.<\/p>\n

Why did you start podcasting?<\/h3>\n

I work in the television\/film industry and saw the potential of podcasting. I had great conversations with my \u201cOff the Air\u2019s: Geek Nation\u201d co-host Kento, who is a comedian, and there wasn\u2019t a lot of podcast shows about geek culture. So we figured, why don\u2019t we make one?<\/p>\n

What\u2019s the name of your show and what is it about?<\/h3>\n

My current show is, \u201cLegends from the Pacific\u201d. It\u2019s a weekly show where I share stories, traditions, beliefs, and people of my heritage, and cultures of the Pacific Ocean.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.<\/h3>\n

I always do tons of research, and went with a Rode Procaster (not Podcaster) mic. Dynamite preamp. Scarlett 2i2.<\/p>\n

I edit with Hindenburg Journalist Pro. Use the wired option for my Sony WH\u20131000xm3 headphones. HP laptop. Mic stand because I prefer standing while recording, and pop filter.<\/p>\n

They say the Procaster comes with a built in pop filter, but Pacific cultures have a lot of \u201cplosives\u201d so the pop filter gives me additional insurance.<\/p>\n

How have you promoted your podcast?<\/h3>\n

My podcast is still new, but I\u2019ve posted episodes on YouTube, excerpts on Twitter, and Instagram.<\/p>\n

Used Libsyn\u2019s integrated headliner to post shareable audiograms on Facebook.<\/p>\n

Posted messages on various gaming blogs, and submitted emails to be a guest on other podcasts.<\/p>\n

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?<\/h3>\n

Start your show. Worry about a fancy website, forums, and other stuff later. It takes a lot of time and stress to have everything up and running on day one. Rome wasn\u2019t built in a day.<\/p>\n
