Q & A with Cassandre from Be Well Sis<\/h2>\n

When did you start podcasting?<\/h3>\n

After thinking long and hard about it, I finally made the leap and started podcasting in February of\u00a02020.<\/p>\n

Why did you start podcasting?<\/h3>\n

My podcast was birthed out of the search for a truly inclusive wellness space.\u00a0 As a medical\u00a0professional and woman who\u2019s genuinely interested in all aspects of Wellness- I\u2019ve found that Black women were either alienated or were tokenized.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Black women statistically suffer the worst outcomes in almost all medical conditions. For example, in the United States, Black women are at least 5\u20137x more likely to die in childbirth than our white counterparts.<\/p>\n

I came very close to being in that number a year and a half ago while delivering my youngest son. I suffered an expected placental abruption that nearly took both our lives.<\/p>\n

What is the name of your show and what is it about?<\/h3>\n

After many months of contemplating how I could positively contribute to the Wellness space, I decided on starting the Be Well Sis<\/a> podcast. I started this podcast in order to create a space for us to get the knowledge and resources necessary to take control of our health and wellness.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.<\/h3>\n

I\u2019m not very tech savvy so my podcast setup is super simple. I usually record in my closet because it provides me with the best sound and also helps prevent some of the household noise from being picked up and carried into the show episodes.<\/p>\n

To record, I use my MacBook Pro and a Blue Yeti mic.<\/p>\n

The majority of the show episodes are interview-based so I either use Zoom or Zencastr.<\/p>\n

I was initially using Zoom but I\u2019ve found the sound\/connection to be inconsistent so I\u2019ve recently started Zencastr.<\/p>\n

To edit, I import the audio files into Garage Band and edit the file to my liking before uploading that to Libsyn for publishing.<\/p>\n

How have you promoted your podcast?<\/h3>\n

Social media has been the primary method I\u2019ve used to promote my podcast. I\u2019m most active on Instagram<\/a> but I\u2019ve also started networking with various podcasting groups on Facebook as well.<\/p>\n

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?<\/h3>\n

While this has been a really great experience, I wish I knew how much work podcasting would entail. This is a ton of work- especially when you\u2019re a one woman show!<\/p>\n

I fumbled a lot during the first month of podcasting because I didn\u2019t have systems in place. Having guest scheduling systems, a template for my show notes and podcast format, has helped tremendously.<\/p>\n
