Q & A with from Planet 3 Radio

When did you start Podcasting?

It was in the late autumn of this year 2014.

After suffering a terrible loss, I felt I needed to add to my daily life pleasant distractions.

I was always interested in radio or televised talk shows and documentaries, so I decided to experiment with this media.

Why did you start Podcasting?

Aside from the need for pleasant distraction listed above, I have always felt like I have much to say on any given matter.

I am close to people who really do not pontificate on things and are not existentialistic in their own thought processes.

I had done some YouTube videos, but I learned that YouTube is more of a visual media, and while a great way to sow ones oats, the visual aspect of YouTube is just as or more important than content.

Also, listening to a podcast does not require one to divert all attention to a screen, conversely one can listen to content while walking their dog, or jogging, or cooking, etc.

What is your show about?

My show is Planet 3 Radio.

It is about things that take place in our world.

There are things that happen both locally and afar. Some things affect our lives significantly, some have little if any impact, but they intrigue us none the less.  This is what my show is about.

Current events, love, life, death, sex, politics, relationships, religion, humanity are topics.  I plan on having guests to interview such as performers, psychics, mediums, homeless folks, hookers, etc…anyone interesting.

I introduce a topic, voice my opinion and other perspectives, and invite listeners to voice their own opinions on my blog page.

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

I use an AT 20/20 condenser microphone.

It is fed into an audio interface, a FocusRite Scarlett 8i6.

I ‘tape’ the show using Reaper (a program like Pro-Tools) which enables me to multi-track, add effects, sound bytes, or whatever. I render to MP3 when all sound is mixed to my preference.

My computer is nothing extreme, just a PC with an Intel generation 3 processor.

I monitor sound via M-Audio studio monitors and headphones.  I have no need for external sound board or mixer as my audio interface + Reaper does this all.

I host my content on Libsyn and my website/ blog page on BlueHost.  I use a basic WordPress blog page.  I don’t even know what CMS is.

How have you promoted your podcast?

I have not really.  Just a few friends through word of mouth.  I feed my podcast through Libsyn, I am on iTunes, etc. I am averaging about 6 downloads per episode.  So far I have only 4 episodes.

What do I know that I wish I knew when I started?

Have no idea.  I think WordPress sucks.

I believe I would have been better off with a GoDaddy type website.  Wordpress is very difficult to get to work the way you want it to if you know nothing about it.

Impact, intrigue and conversation, if that’s something you’re looking for, why don’t you give Planet 3 Radio a shot and subscribe!

If you’re looking for a little something to take you out of a funk or spice things up a little podcasting can be just the ticket.
