Q & A with Andrea from Savvy Social Podcast

When did you start podcasting?

June 2018.

Why did you start podcasting?

I’d been writing blogs since 2004 and creating YouTube videos since 2007. I love creating content online! I had a few clients who had podcasts and saw how much the industry was growing. Plus, I found talking to be my preferred way of communicating.

What’s the name of your show and what is it about?

The Savvy Social Podcast is for budding entrepreneurs who want to understand the “why” of social media marketing.

I talk about all things social media, chat with other industry professionals about what has worked for them, and teach how to elevate social media strategies through practical, proven advice.

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

I record my podcast using the Electro Voice RE20 and the Focusrite Scarlett Solo Gen2. I use Garageband to record the intros/outros and Zoom.us to record the interviews.

Travis at PodcastBuddy.co edits my show each week and writes my show notes.

How have you promoted your podcast?

For each episode, I share an audiogram on social media to showcase a snippet of the episode. I use Headliner.app to create these.

Then I schedule each post to social media using Social Report. Each post follows this pattern:

→ Grab their attention in any way. I always try to focus on how to slow down the scroll.

→ Share a few nuggets from the podcast episode. My goal is to give them even more reasons to listen.

→ Outline where the podcast is available. I know people are busy and I want to be able to give them a few options.

These posts are shared to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram. I also share the audiogram to Instagram stories as well.

Once a month, I remind my followers to subscribe to the podcast. This post shares the values of the podcast overall and is a great way to showcase which podcast platforms they can find the show.

Each day, I’m regularly networking and connecting with potential listeners on social media. I’ve been finding that Instagram and Twitter have been amazing platforms for that.

Outside of using social media as a tool to promote my podcast, I frequently mention my podcast when I’m a guest on other shows. I made a huge effort to do that last year which has paid off nicely.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

I wish I started working ahead on recording episodes sooner. I launched with three episodes and missed a few weeks in the beginning because I wasn’t planning ahead enough. Now, I use AirTable to keep things organized. It’s the best way for me to stay on top of things.
