Q & A with Nicole from Navigating the World with Your Aging Loved One

When did you start podcasting?

We submitted our trailer for Navigating the World with Your Aging Loved One to Apple podcasts in February of 2020. It was right before the pandemic and little did we know what would come.

We released our first episode in May of 2020 and the world of remote interviews was now common practice and we were able to build our podcast community.

What made you think about starting a podcast about aging?

I started the podcast as a personal mission to bring awareness and support to the 53 million family caregivers of older adults that are looking for a place of support and information.

What’s the name of your show and what is it about?

The whole name of the podcast is Navigating the World with Your Aging Loved One by willGather.

willGather is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of our aging community by equipping older adults, their family members, and eldercare professionals with valuable information and resources.

At my core, I am a collaborator and cheerleader for others by sharing the good work they do in the world, and all for my favorite group of people — our elders.

I have over 20 years of experience in the field of aging and eldercare services.

Growing up, my grandma came to live with my family and became one of my closest friends.

Inspired by this special relationship and passion, I went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services: Social Gerontology and am actively certified through NCCAP.

What expertise do you bring to your show?

I spent many years working as a Director at a well-respected, large senior living community overseeing the Therapeutic Recreation, Volunteer, and Spiritual Care departments. Here, I led my sizable team to a successful tenure and improved resident engagement success.

I continue my hands-on approach with a deep understanding of family caregiver needs.

We all know and care about someone that is aging.

We are here to be a resource and encouragement as you navigate the world with your aging loved one. These times can often feel overwhelming — we’ve been there!

We will tell the stories, ask the questions, share the information and encourage those listening along the way. In every episode, our goal is to lead with empathy and end in hope.

Our hope is to create a sense of community for those caring for the aging, inspiring a vision of life-long learning and engagement.

What’s your podcast set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

  • I host my website and use the CRM to build our community through website host WIX.
  • Canva and Headliner are what I use to create audio graphics.
  • I schedule all of my interviews through Calendly.

How have you promoted Navigating the World with Your Aging Loved One?

Our podcast has only been promoted through word of mouth and the network of my interviewees.

We also use social media but have not paid for advertising often.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

I wish I knew how much time and work goes into podcast creation.

I wouldn’t change a thing. It’s been a blessing full of meeting incredible people and learning so much.

I would encourage others to be consistent and set up great processes for themselves to stay organized and set up for success.

You might not see big results right away, but keep going and eventually, you will see growth and exciting feedback. It takes time.
