Q & A with from Joanna from The New Superheroes
When did you start podcasting?
I started the new superheroes 10 years ago as an interview show about people that I found
interesting. I interviewed people who were top in their fields about subjects like herbs, psychic
abilities and women’s studies.
But I went world traveling for a year and then went to live in Australia for 3 and I stopped doing them.
I had recorded it through TalkShoe and had no idea they deleted the episodes, so all of those old interviews are gone.
The new The New Superheroes is mostly tips and tools for energetically sensitive people. I
teach them one tool a week so they can feel more comfortable with the superpowers that they
currently have or are trying to develop.
Every once in a while I will interview people who are masters of their particular craft. I find these interviews to always be uplifting and inspirational.
Why did you start podcasting?
When I learned about energy healing 25 years ago I was blown away by this information. I
wanted to know everything I could about it and studied with many teachers and read so many
books on everything I could.
I started learning about energy healing in Berkeley California and there were so many books on the subject that I created my own college course for energy work, psychology, world religions, herbs, essential oils. I couldn’t get enough of studying all of these things I had no idea of growing up in the Midwest.
What I came to understand however, is that not everyone has extensive knowledge of these
subjects, so I wanted to share everything I have learned over the past 25 years so that it would
cut the learning curve for many.
What’s the name of your show and what is it about?
The New Superheroes: What’s Your Super Power? Why did I name my podcast The New Superheroes? Have you ever gone to a movie about superheroes and felt like somewhere deep inside you had one of those superpowers…I think we do, I think we all do and that is why it resonates with us so deeply.
I want to help people understand and realize their superpowers. I want everyone to know that somewhere deep inside of them is a superhero who is going to change the world with that very special gift that only they have in their special way.
If everyone was able to know their way that they could make the world a better place, I think we would be too busy doing good intake world instead of all of the craziness that is happening right now on the planet.
What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.
I went through a lot of microphones but when you buy the cheap ones you have to do so much
more tweaking with the editing process. I finally invested in a SHURE SM7B and Scarlett Amp
and it was a really great investment. I hardly have to do any editing on the sound quality.
I use Audacity for editing out the bulky things and adding the intro and outro and Auphonic for
perfecting the levels.
How have you promoted your podcast?
I promote my show mostly on Facebook and Instagram, but Libsyn sends it out to Twitter and
Linked In as well.
What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?
I wish I would have known about the timing of when the podcasts actually come out when you
publish them. I thought that the first episode would go out right away, but it took a few days.
Everyone kept asking me where it was so I had to tell them there was a delay…which made me
feel a bit unprofessional. I did an interview with someone and planned for it to happen that way
again but it was the 3rd episode and it went out right away, so it messed up my timing a bit.
Other than that it’s been working well.
