Q & A with Rhoda from What Healthy Couples Know That You Don’t
When did you start podcasting?
It was the end of April 2014
Why did you start podcasting?
I love the complicatedness of helping two people learn how to make a relationship last.
I wanted to reach couples & help them understand the work it takes to have longevity.
So I started out with short & sweet episodes under 20 minutes, then I started mixing in interviews with guests who offer real wisdom.
My guests are so great, I often learn from them myself, even after decades in this business.
I love the ability to educate & help people achieve greater success with their relationships.
What’s the name of your show and what is it about?
At the age of 62 I released 3 episodes of my podcast WHAT HEALTHY COUPLES KNOW THAT YOU DON’T.
My husband of 49 years helped me by coming up with the name.
After decades in private practice as a therapist I wanted to reach a greater audience than just those who show up in my office.
Now in 2021, I’m in the top 1% globally. I consider my podcast one of substance.
What’s your podcasting set-up?
Recently I started using riverside.fm for recording & I love it.
My microphone is the RODE for podcasters along with Focusrite Scarlett.
I record on my MacBook Pro. I use Hindenburg for editing.
I put up acoustic tiles in my basement & have a set up there for recording.
I also attended Podcast Movement in 2016 & again in 2018 where I learned a lot.
I’m considering recording video for youtube because riverside.fm & Libsyn make it easy but I’m not ready to do that yet.
How have you promoted your podcast?
I had to figure out how to make podcasting work for me.
I love doing it & at 69 I still work in my private practice so I’ve taken the unusual path of releasing only one episode a month.
I’m also not trying to make money.
I believe twitter is my best social media platform & I tweet 1 audiograms every day and 3 photo tweets on social jukebox for an entire month for just the one episode.
I love making audiograms on Headliner using my own pictures of couples on the beach or street art or even sculptures.
What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?
I wish I’d known earlier that everybody has to figure out what their unique fingerprint is to survive because I believe podcasting is a long game.
I’m also glad my topic of relationships is my passion because I can tolerate the tech frustrations, being ghosted by guests who’ve already said yes & dealing with the publicists who pitch me then make things very complicated when communicating.
Since my last episode released 18 days ago & I have over 6,000 downloads I am very satisfied that people are learning more about how to make relationships last.
After all, relationships are one of the most important parts of life & nobody teaches it in high school.
