Q & A with Alan from Talks At Google

When did you start podcasting?

The Talks at Google podcast officially launched in August 2018!

Why did you start podcasting?

Talks at Google has existed online for over 14 years, publishing most content to YouTube and Twitter in recent years.

As a way to further connect with our enthusiastic followers in a format that is growing at an alarming rate, we decided to take the most popular, impactful content and publish it again as a podcast.

What’s the name of your show about and what is it about?

Talks at Google – We wanted to put all of the world’s most influential thinkers, creators, makers and doers in the same room, so you could hear what they have to say.

But we couldn’t fit them all in. So we created Talks at Google. You can visit any time you like to find out what drives them and how they make our world a better place.

We are Talks at Google, where great minds meet.

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

Our events are all filmed in front of a live audience of Google employees using various makes and models of 1080p cameras, depending on where in the globe the event takes place.

After publishing the video on our YouTube channel, we strip the audio and remaster it for in-ear, personal headphone listening.

The audio is brought into Logic Pro where it is first run through the iZotope RX plugin to remove rogue device noises, random feedback frequencies, hum, hiss, etc, as needed.

Editing then continues where tip & tail branding and the necessary VO elements are edited in.

The VO itself is recorded with an AT2020 USB microphone. We use a custom-build Google Docs spreadsheet beefed up with custom Apps Script to auto-nag and remind key stakeholders when next steps are necessary and/or overdue on a weekly basis.

How have you promoted your podcast?

After launch, we uploaded a short teaser to our YouTube channel to get the word out.

For every subsequent episode release, we will push out a tweet.
However, for the most part, our large listener base has arrived and grown organically.

If you are interested in hearing from great minds, creators, influential thinkers, Talks At Google in your ears is a must! Subscribe today!
