Q & A with Joel from Were You Still Talking
When did you start podcasting?
Just started in April this year, so a bit of a newbie.
Why did you start podcasting?
Well, I was listening to Joe Rogan with Kevin Smith and they were sort of going back and forth about how anyone can do a podcast, so I thought I would give it a try. I was also inspired by Russell Brand’s podcast and when he was a guest on Joe Rogan.
What’s the name of your show and what is it about?
Were You Still Talking and it’s about people, places, arts, food, culture, putting positive energy in the world, how all of us have something to say or maybe we don’t, life, death, laziness, motivation, breathing!
The connection we all share on the planet and quite possibly getting away from the pedestrian level of consciousness. Having a conversation not just interviewing people.
What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.
I use a Berhinger X32 Board, I have a dozen mics from being a audio engineer, but now I’m using a Shure SM7 (perhaps you’ve heard of it) and a AKG Precision 200 for guest. I record to Pro Tools and to the board for backup.
All the final processing is done in Pro Tools. I realize this is far more than what is needed to start a podcast, but it’s what I had lying around after 15 years of having a home studio.
How have you promoted your podcast?
I have promoted the podcast a little on facebook with FB adds. Not sure if it helped much. Sometimes I think it may be a good thing that I don’t have a budget for promotion. Might be better to let it grow organically.
What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?
Still so new, but I wish I knew how long it might take for the show to get an audience. When I listen to Rob talk stats, it’s actually very encouraging.
