Q & A with Danielle from The Thought Card

When did you start podcasting?

After wanting to start a podcast for two years, I launched The Thought Card in September 2018.

Why did you start podcasting?

Although I enjoyed blogging, I started my podcast to connect with my existing audience more intimately. I also wanted to connect with other financially savvy travelers and learn how they were finding creative ways to afford traveling the world while reaching their financial goals.

What’s the name of your show and what is it about?

The Thought Card is an affordable travel finance podcast empowering financially savvy travelers to make more informed financial decisions – travel more, pay off debt, and build wealth.

What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.

I record with a Blue Yeti USB microphone which I plug into my MacBook. I record solo episodes into Audacity and conduct interviews using Skype Ecamm Recorder. Next, I export the wav file into Auphonic, an audio post-production web service before uploading it to Libsyn. When I’m recording on location, I use the Zoom H1N Handy Recorder.

How have you promoted your podcast?

Since my podcast is an extension of my affordable travel finance blog, initially I promoted my show to my existing audience. I announced new episodes to my newsletter and on social media. For each episode, I created at least two pins for Pinterest.

I also share my content in podcasting Facebook groups. On Wednesdays, I share new episodes in the “Windbag Wednesday” thread in She Podcasts. On Fridays, I share in the “Friday Free For All” thread in WOC Podcasters.

After launching my show, I also created a Facebook group for my tribe – Financially Savvy Travelers and I share new episodes there as well. Lastly, collaborating with podcasters in the travel, personal finance, and personal development niche has helped me expand my network and grow my audience.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

Before getting started, I wish I knew how beneficial producing a seasonal show could be, especially since I create content for my blog and have a full-time job. If you need a break, take it. However, let your audience know your plans beforehand and tell them when they can expect to hear from you again. They will understand.

If you are looking to plan travel in the future, and make sure that you can do it in a thoughtful and financially savvy way you must subscribe to The Thought Card!
