Q & A with Brandon from the EDGE
When did you start podcasting?
1997. I was not dealing with entrepreneurs back then. And I don’t think it was called “podcasting.”
It was called “Brandon got tired of writing 4,000-word fishing reports and started recording audio to put the files up on a webpage.”
What made you think about starting a podcast?
I started podcasting for entrepreneurs because I got tired of writing articles. Then once I started doing audio, I realized it was much better for the readers of our site because they could listen in the car while on their way to fish.
What’s the name of your show and what is it about?
EDGE.
The show gives entrepreneurs and business owners the edge to win in business and life.
It provides authentic, unscripted conversations with guests who share their stories and lessons learned.
They share how they’ve achieved success, peak performance, wealth, and happiness.
I share lessons I’ve learned over two decades as an entrepreneur with a lot of failures and two exits (so far).
What’s your podcast setup? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.
Since I don’t do anything in moderation, a year ago I built a full recording studio in my backyard. Here are the specs:
The walls are insulated with Rockwool Safe’n’Sound Stone Wool Insulation.
The whole studio is wrapped with Audimute PEACEMAKER® SOUND BARRIER – 3.2MM
Drywall sits over the Peacemaker sound barrier.
The entire back wall behind where I record solo is covered with AUDIMUTE STRATA.
All the other walls have custom-printed Audimute Acoustic Panels.
I did put a sliding glass door in for light when I’m working and not recording. The sliding doors have removable Audimute Sound Absorption Sheets.
The floor is sealed and then covered in felt, on top of that is wool carpet to dampen the sound.

How have you promoted your podcast?
On social media (twitter and instagram), word of mouth, earned press, SEO, and to our email list, which we’ve managed to build up to more than 17,200 listeners.
What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?
The best way to get the word out about your show is not posting all over social media. It is getting on other shows and offering the host’s audience something so good their listeners want to check out your show.
