Q & A with Rachel with Adventures In Mobile Homes
When did you start podcasting?
My first episode aired June 6, 2020.
Why did you start podcasting?
I started podcasting because I wanted to share my stories and adventures in mobile home investing with people in voice format.
Prior to podcasting, I wrote about these experiences in my blog (Adventures in Mobile Homes). So, I wanted to transfer what I wrote there to the spoken word which resulted in the podcast.
In addition, I wanted to have more reach so more people could hear my stories. And it has. People from all parts of the world have listened to my podcast who may have never found me through my blog.
What’s the name of your show and what is it about?
The name of my show is called Adventures in Mobile Homes with Rachel Hernandez.
Basically, I share what I’ve learned (through my stories and experiences as a mobile home investor) about how to make money work for you through mobile home investing.
Investing in mobile homes has given me the time to do the things I want to do, not have to do. And, this is what I teach.
What’s your podcasting set-up?
I have a very basic set up. For hardware, I record and edit my podcast on my MacBook Pro.
I use a Blue Yeti microphone for recording with a basic microphone stand, pop filter, and Knox Gear shock mount.
For software, I use GarageBand both for recording and editing.
How have you promoted your podcast?
Right now, it’s basically word of mouth through my email list, Twitter and Instagram following and network of bloggers and podcasters I know.
Since my blog has been around since 2007, I have a strong network of people I know that have helped me to spread the word. Also, I’ve been interviewed on a number of podcasts over the years.
I’m constantly getting requests for guest interviews to be on other podcasts, which helps with promoting the podcast as well.
What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?
Your gear is not what makes you a good podcaster. Sure, it helps. But what really makes you a good podcaster is knowing your material and letting your podcast stand out above others.
You’re selling YOU, not someone else. So be authentic and be yourself.
As a new podcaster, I put so much time and research into selecting my microphone and gear. Looking back at it now, it’s not such a big deal.
My advice for new podcasters is to go with gear you’re comfortable with and a basic set up. You can always upgrade in the future once you get more experience.
