Q & A with Mack from Vietnam Veteran News
When did you start podcasting?
My first podcast was on January 8, 2014.
Why did you start podcasting?
I wrote a book about my experiences in Vietnam and began speaking to
patriotic organizations about the book. After speaking dozens of times
I began to notice there would be Vietnam Veterans at every one of my speaking events and most would stick around after the speech and talk about their Vietnam War experiences.
Many of their stories were very interesting and I began to think of ways to preserve those memories of a difficult time in our history. I also realized the World War II generation is rapidly dying off and most of the time they took their memories with them when they died.
And that was my motivation for starting the Vietnam Veteran News Podcast – to help preserve the memories of Vietnam Veterans while at the same time airing topics of interest to the veterans.
What’s your show about?
My show is about anything and everything a Vietnam Veteran might be interested in hearing about including: interviews, articles, opinions, organizations and causes such as Agent Orange equity.
What’s your podcasting set-up? Hardware, software, CMS, etc.
My shows are recorded on a Roland R–05 Wave/MP3 Recorder.
The R–05 works well for recording my voice for solo shows, for in person interviews and phone interviews.
The integral microphone works fine. I use Audacity to edit my recordings. Of course I use Libsyn podcast hosting services and Google’s ID3 Editor.
How have you promoted your podcast?
I promote my podcast with a listing in the iTunes Store, Facebook Groups, forums, directories, email lists, paid ads and my website .
What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?
Nothing – I followed Cliff Ravenscraft’s instructions to the “tee” and everything is working out fine. It is up to me to do the work.
If you are a veteran and are looking for a community, a place to get news and information and share your thoughts then subscribing to Vietnam Veteran News is a no brainer.
