Q & A with Mel and Steph from Millennial Women Talk

When did you start podcasting?

We started podcasting in 2018 out of a small little closet in the back of our parent’s warehouse. We had just moved back to Miami after living in LA together for many years pursuing careers in Entertainment.

After failed attempts in trying to sell our scripted tv series then called “Millennial Girls” we took matters into our own hands and started Millennial Women Talk the podcast.

Why did you start podcasting?

We started podcasting with the vision and mission to create a platform where millennial women could come and share their thoughts and perspectives and allow their voices to be represented directly by them.

We believe that communication is the gateway to creating understanding among people because fundamentally we are all so much more alike than we are different and podcasting allowed us that opportunity!

What’s the name of your show and what is it about?

Our show is called Millennial Women Talk and it is a personal and self-development podcast that focuses on topics that elevate your mind, body, and soul!

What’s your podcasting set-up?

We started with the classic Blue Yeti mic we bought two in order for Steph and me to have our own mic, we recorded and edited on Garageband.

When we began traveling we upgraded to a Zoom H6 recorder and two newer mics from amazon that were just 20 bucks! We then hired an editor to help us launch episodes more effectively.

Today we have partnered with a production company CSP media and we use professional lavs to record our episode on set in the studio.

How have you promoted your podcast?

We mainly promote our podcast by creating cross-promotion opportunities whether that be with our podcast guest, influencer, or brand collaborations, and also partnering with other audiences that have our ideal listeners!

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

We would say that we wish we could have monetized faster than we did. I think a lot of podcasters think they have to have a million downloads before securing their first sponsor.

We encourage our students to think linearly when approaching sponsors. Especially after 2020, small businesses need marketing and promotion and if you have their ideal customers and clients as listeners why not have them advertise through your podcast? Even 100 listeners can be very beneficial for businesses looking to advertise.
